Hello all! Sorry for the scant updates of late, it's been a rather long haul on production, as was to be expected. Overcoming unseen obstacles and soldiering on. Episode 1 has one more scene to shoot, and once that is finished and into editing and voice overs and music edits done on episode 2, then we shall have the first two Future Perfect episodes completed at which point the famed screening shall take place. As you are all aware, we plan on screening the first two episodes, before continuing filming on the others, so as to have something concrete to look back to as we continue on our adventure in indie new wave film making.Once episode 1 is complete, we shall upload some screen grabs from the episodes, and there will likely be a new trailer for that first episode as opposed to the teaser from episode 2 which came out last year.
Stay tuned, and of course all help and contributions are welcome. Thanks for sticking with us, it'll be worth it in a couple of months.

Shooting on episode 1, the pilot has been underway for the past week now, so things are moving along. There will be a short break in filming over the summer break, to recommence from the end of august/beginning of september. Episode 2 is edited and is awaiting post work and a few pick up scenes. The screening will now be postponed until the final pilot episode is completed, post, music and all, and will hopefully screen with extracts from episode 2, or possibly both complete episodes. The edit has hit delays, and so what we are now aiming to do is to have a showcase screening, which is essentially a promo reel of episode 2 with a few other trailers etc for other VH projects. Some delays in editing due to scheduling, but it's at a rough cut stage, minus the last few scenes to be shot. This of course pushes the screening back a bit, but updates on that shall be made as it progresses. In other casting news, Naomi Ncube is playing the supporting role of Chrissy, who makes her first appearance in episode 1, and then recurs in later episodes. More news soon.

Due to various circumstances, the role of Sarah has been passed on from Lesley Bowen to actress Vera Chok, who will begin filming her scenes in the coming weeks. Lesley does however have a supporting role in the episode and has shot and wrapped her scene. We all wish her a safe trip back.
Those who would like to be invited to the preview screening in London of the second episode towards the end of April, please send me a message and i can RSVP you for the day. There will be limited places, so first come first served. It will be a screening with the cast and crew.

Shooting on episode 2 began this past week. The rest of the shoot, editing, wrap up and eventual screening of the episode to cast and crew will happen over the next couple of months. Some news updates in the form of screen caps from the episode, behind the scenes video and photos along with some promo material will be put up over the period, so watch this space. Following the end of production on episode 2, the other episodes will then be shot over the months to come.

*PILOT UPDATE**
I can now confirm that we will be taking proposals again for direction of the pilot episode. Due to various circumstances the previous director is unable to work on it and is going to work on future episodes in the series.
Proposals may be any length and format that the scripts/stories inspire you to do, and so should really be your own voice. You should talk about how you would approach the episode and your impressions on the themes and elements of the series that strike you, and anythign else that you feel is appropriate to why you are the one to direct it etc. As of now i'm setting a 2 week window for proposals after which the selection would be made. Email me for scripts if you do not already have them.

Just a little reminder firstly, of the meeting on the 26th Sat for all key players in the first season.
On a more important note, due to various circumstances beyond our control, our Episode 1 director Az Saleem may not be able to stay with the first season. In the event of which we would be needing a replacement Director of the pilot. This is not confirmed, but if there are any potential takers (All you late pitchers and those who didn't get a chance to submit their interest etc), do make yourself heard so we can stat prepping you in time etc if we do indeed need someone to come on board.
Of course once it is confirmed, and once we have sleected the replacement if there is one, that person would ideally be present at the meeting this Saturday. The door is open.

Christmas is upon us. Everyone is either on their way, away, or getting ready to be so. And with that in mind, just a little note to everyone to say that the big meeting will be at the start of the year (2nd/3rd week of January), so actors will meet, photos will be taken, plans will be made. Won't keep the suspense longer. We have the final cast of season 1 AND season 2 as well (for the most part)

SEASON 2
Just a brief description: The theme for this season is 'Revelation', and deals with themes ranging from poverty and immigration to prejudice among other things. The characters are set, but the scripts are being developed and written, and updates will be posted here. Again 5 main characters, here are the actors playing them, both the leads and the 2 major supporting roles:

UPDATE* NOVEMBER 5TH '07*

CASTING UPDATE - Actors have been selected for a casting callback session which will take place in the coming weeks. These will be filmed prepared readings, and will most likely take place over a few days, possibly on a weekend. The scenes to be read will be announced later today, so watch this space for that. Those who were not invited for call backs will all be added to the talent pool for future seasons, as well as supporting roles in this season and others. Some supporting roles have also been cast, details of which will also be announced later today.
A future story arc, theme 'Revelation', also has been almost completely cast through this past session. Of course heads of other story arcs in development should please look at the Talent Pool first for casting.
Again, anyone interested in taking part in the call back sessions should make a note on the board, wall, or email me. Thanks to those who already have.

PROPOSALS - The deadline for these has been extended to Wednesday the 7th of Nov. A provisional list of the directors will also be put up later today, which may then change after the new deadline.

In other news, the intro for the series might very possibly be shot this weekend. Our principal Cameraman for this shoot is Christopher Schneider, however 2nd units and all other interested parties are more than welcome. Again just post to the board, or send an email.

Just a note for the site to inform people that there is a group for the series on the social networking site, FACEBOOK. As many people round the world are signed up to the site, a group was started there initially to have people associated with the project as well as other interested parties, keep up to date and express their interest. FUTURE PERFECT: SERIES OUTLINE

The idea of the series is to create a fairly realist universe where
the lives of all its inhabitants are chronicled. This will be done in
a series of various story arcs that focus on 5 separate individuals
each arc, from said universe. It’s a drama series, and hence we will
be exploring the harsher more dramatic elements of these characters
lives as they go through their days. The idea is to reflect on real
life, and the harsh realities often not dealt with directly and
portray them as realistically and honestly as possible.

SEASON 1: CHAPTERS 1-6

The first arc follows 5 characters, all non-related (with the
exception of two pairs of the five who know each other, but live
separate journeys)

JAMES - An aspiring novelist, currently working for a local paper
SARAH – A brilliant university student who at the beginning of her
story is faced with a new and delicate situation
SAMANTHA – An alcoholic violinist not willing to face her own demons
DAVID – A disillusioned artist, still grieving the loss of his lover (He is a close friend of Samantha’s)
KATHERINE – A model looking to start her life in a new direction (Old friend of James’)

The idea is to have a sort of underlying theme for each arc. The theme
of the pilot season is ‘Self-destruction’, promising individuals on a
downward spiral. The titles of the first 6 episodes are as follows:
* Before my dying day (pilot)
* Comfort in Solitude
* Ad Infinitum
* The less trodden path
* Conclusion
* Prologue

RATING
It is a graphic series, portraying scenes of violence, strong language
and sexuality. So we are not limiting ourselves. But this is not
license for gratuity; it must all come from a real place.

THE WORLD
We will be filming in London to begin with, but this fact will never
be focused on in the series. This is because the city is supposed to
exist as a sort of nether realm, a place that could be anywhere, and
so whether it’s filmed in Tokyo or Battersea, we should not care too
much other than appreciate a ‘change in scenery’ because we should be
following the characters. This doesn’t mean landmarks can’t be shown
or places mentioned, but basically it’s just to say that the city as a
place, the world around it too, should not necessarily be a
determining factor. We are not telling for example a New York story if
we are filming in New York, or likewise for London, but the story of
individuals in a global environment. The series should be able to span
the globe, and still give off the same feeling. 1 arc could be in
France, the next in Canada. There should be no restrictions except our
own location.
The world is tied together, no matter which city it is based in, by a
radio station with a DJ for the daytime, and one at night. These are
the only recurring characters and they tie together the story, hinting
at the themes of the arc if you will.
We will be viewing this world mostly at night for the first arc. I
envisioned this look for the series; however it is subject to change
depending on the requirements of the script.

MUSIC
Limited to either source or at key points, but mostly ambient sounds

MEDIUM
It is to be shot on DV, for the naturalist feel, and for ease and
availability. This way cheap production and smaller crews. In this
respect we can make comparisons with the Dogme95 movement, where the
camera is handheld, no sets or artificial lights etc the more
technical elements of the manifesto. But in a sense we are also
borrowing the strength and eventual graphic nature of events to some
degree that is common to Dogma films

The objective is to not worry about budget and things of that nature,
but to make film, to do things without waiting for hand outs, to put
it bluntly. Hence there is no set timeline outside of what the film
makers feel they need. The movie ‘Tarnation’ was made for less than
$700 and was edited on the guys IMac in IMovie. I don’t see why we
can’t do the same if we are passionate enough.

Ongoing new wave TV series project "Future Perfect"
A dive into the realm of a reality seldom explored, and a world so vast no single story can tell of its mysteries and inhabitants. Vertigoheights is a film collective/production company of people from the industry and up and comers looking for a creative outlet outside of the mainstream system.
This project is above all a showcase of talent, and should be screened on Cable and Terrestrial televsion and/or online on completion of the first season. Already had talks with Channel 4 for agreed distribution slot. This is a low-budget production, however general expenses will be covered and any future proceeds garnered by the project will be distributed accordingly.

We are casting 4 of the 5 lead roles:

james

A Young aspiring writer, who is given a shock revelation that he may not be able to pursue his dreams.
He is of a rather calm demeanour, witty, and tends to internalise his emotions. He is very driven and his sole focus, of becoming a published author, has been the only goal of his professional life

sarah

A brilliant young Post-graduate student, who finds herself in a delicate new situation at the start of the series.
She is very intelligent, but not introverted, and she goes about things in peculiar ways when she finds herself in a tight spot. She is also dealing with family pressures and her own self inflicted issues

Samantha

an alcoholic violinist from a fairly priviledged upper-middle class background. She is smart, and tends to talk alot about ways to solve other peoples problems, always avoiding her own. She has many issues with society in general and has a very exacting attitude concerning what she wants from life

Katherine

A former model looking to start her life in a new direction, towards something she hopes would be more fulfilling. She is slightly naive, with a big heart and a desire to do many things with her life. She is naturally beautiful, and since leaving the modeling industry hopes to leave her 'looks' behind her

All these roles are of playing age mid-late 20s early 30s. Ethnicity is not a factor

For those who are not aware of this expedition, this is about
the TV Series currently in development, likely to be shown on channel 4/more
4 and/or other stations. The outline is included at the end of this blurb.
For those who are already involved, production is going to get
underway in the next month or two (Casting, Locations etc) to start
filming on two episodes from the first season hopefully by the end of
the year. Screenwriters who have been working on scripts should try
and send them down by then if possible.
We are now appointing the roles for the first season. You
need to send your episode preference based on the scripts you have
read and the overall storyline for the arc. Also, if there are any
other directors who would like to be considered for 1 of the 6
episodes in the season, please post for details (Whether you have
been involved from the start or not)
We will be tech crewing based on the eventual schedules the directors
arrange for the shoot of their episode. Once all entries etc have been
received, we shall arrange a meeting possibly a few weeks afterwards
to confirm.
The quest begins.

Also any aspiring producers, writers, editors, designers etc are
welcome to join the projects at anytime as this is ongoing. Other
seasons and story arcs are already under development and any new ones

An Official casting session will be happening in the next few weeks. All those who joined the group or sent emails, will be invited to this session. Please send an email, or post in the discussion board which roles you would like to audition for, and scripts for reading can be sent out etc.

DIRECTOR DEADLINE: The deadline for directors to submit their interest and proposals for the first season is Oct 26th. Your proposals for the episode you would like to direct should be clear and fairly in depth.
The selection process will then follow, either in the form of ballot, or direct selection based on the proposals, and the number of people vying for any one episode. Please feel free to post photos or references on the group page to further illustrate your ideas and proposals, as well as how you see the series as a whole.Just to say once more, that all these episodes will be shot as of next January ('08), however episodes 2 and possibly 3, will hopefully be done by the end of the year, so as to act as a template for the others to follow.
